Prof. Michael Garrett is currently Professor Emeritus of Clinical Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He is also on the faculty of the Psychoanalytic Association of New York (PANY) affiliated with NYU Medical Center in New York City. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and completed his residency training in Psychiatry at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center. He currently teaches and supervises clinicians doing psychotherapy for psychosis and is a consultant to several first-episode for psychosis teams in the United States and everywhere. He has a particular interest in the integration of cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic treatment in the psychotherapy of psychosis, as detailed in his recent book: Garrett, M. (2019) Psychotherapy for Psychosis: Integrating Cognitive Behavioral and Psychodynamic Treatments. Guilford Press/New York.

 

 

Prof. Dag Söderström MD is psychiatrist, psychoanalyst IPA and vice chair ISPS.Starting his clinical education with Christian Müller in Lausanne (Switzerland), he then worked with families at a psychiatric day hospital.Later he became head of a psychoanalytical oriented hospital and medical director for a swiss region. Cofounder of isps Switzerland, he has lectured and published mainly on psychosis and transference.Also lecturing in psychosomatics (Balint) and co-researcher in the swiss research team “City and psychosis », he is teaching and supervising at Lausanne University in Switzerland.In 2021, he published with Prof Philippe Conus a book of reference entitled “Psychotherapeutic approach to psychoses”, RMS editions Geneva.

 

 

Prof. Katherine Berry is a Professor in Clinical Psychology at the University of Manchester and Co-director of the Complex Trauma and Resilience Research Unit (C-TRU) at Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. She has carried out extensive research into the psychological and social causes of severe mental health problems. She has used these findings to develop and evaluate more accessible psychological therapies for people experiencing psychosis in both community and inpatient settings. She is currently the lead investigator on a large multi-centre trial which aims to increase access to psychological therapies for inpatients (Talk, Understand and Listen in Inpatient Patient Setting; TULIPS). Professor Berry’s PhD thesis focused on attachment theory and psychosis and throughout her career she has published a large body of work on attachment theory and therapeutic relationships. This includes editing two books on attachment theory: Attachment Theory and Adult Mental health (Danquah and Berry, 2013) and Attachment Theory in Psychosis (Berry, Bucci and Danquah, 2019). Her most recent book - Attachment Theory the Basics - provides a comprehensive and accessible introduction to the key concepts of attachment theory.

 

 

Prof. Dr. Mike Slade is a clinical psychologist specialising in psychosis and Professor of Mental Health Recovery and Social Inclusion at the University of Nottingham. His main research interests are recovery-focused and outcome-focused mental health services, including Recovery Colleges, lived experience narratives, citizen science, wellbeing, needs assessment and developing measures, e.g. INSPIRE, Camberwell Assessment of Need, Threshold Assessment Grid. He has written over 300 academic articles and published 15 books, including Personal Recovery and Mental Illness (2009), Partnering for Recovery in Mental Health (2014), Positive Psychotherapy for Psychosis (2017), Wellbeing, Recovery and Mental Health (2017) and Camberwell Assessment of Need, 2nd edition (2020). His 15 free booklets include Making Recovery a Reality (2008), REFOCUS: Promoting recovery in community mental health services, 2nd edition (2011), 100 Ways to Support Recovery, 2nd edition (2013), The empirical evidence about recovery (2015) and The Business Case for Recovery (2017), all downloadable at researchintorecovery.com.

 

 

Prof. Fernando Colina Pérez. (Valladolid, 1947) Psychiatrist. He was the director of the Psychiatric Hospital of Valladolid from 1985 to 2006 and Head of the Psychiatry Department of the Hospital Universitario Río Hortega from 2006 to 2017. Since 2018, he has been a Psychiatrist Emeritus of the Hospital Universitario Río Hortega. From September 1993 to September 2000, and from 2006 to 2010, he was the director of the Revista de la Asociación Española de Neuropsiquiatría and director of publications during the same period of time. Prof. Diego Figuera Alvarez, Psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Since 2005, he has been the director of the Ponzano Day Hospital of the Institute of Psychiatry and Mental Health of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos of Madrid. In 2013, he created and directed the Vínculo Terapéutico Instituto de Psicoterapia Avanzada (Therapeutic Bond Institute of Advanced Psychotherapy) focused on clinical training and supervision. He also works as a supervisor of care teams in public mental health centers and units and social services of different nature, focusing on family care and gender-based violence. He has served on the board of directors of the Instituto de Estudios Psicosomáticos y Psicoterapia Médica (Institute of Psychosomatic Studies and Medical Psychotherapy) and was secretary and president in the association The International Attachment Network Iberoamericana (IAN IA). At present, he is the vice president of IAN España. He was a professor of the Master Program of Multifamily Therapy at the University of La Salle and is currently the academic director of the Attachment Theory Course in the clinical and interdisciplinary contexts, endorsed by IAN E. In 2012, he received the Jaime Albert Solana award, granted by the foundation of this name together with the Mental Health Confederation of Spain for his work done in favor of family treatments. In 2016 the Madrid City Council granted him the Gold Metal of Madrid in recognition of his professional career. He has been a member of the Assembly of Madrid and spokesman for the Más Madrid group for disability and mental health policies since 2019. This political aspect has been conducted within a regimen of compatibility with his professional health care and teaching activity.

 

 

Prof. Anabel González is a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, with training in several orientations such as group therapy, cognitive-analytic therapy, systemic therapy and trauma-oriented therapy. PhD in Medicine and Specialist in Criminology. She forms a part of the board of directors of the European Society of Trauma and Dissociation (ESTD) and is the vice president of the Spain EMDR Association. She is working in the Hospital Universitario of La Coruña (CHUAC), coordinating the Trauma and Dissociation Program, oriented towards patients with severe trauma. For some years now, she has been providing training on dissociative disorders, trauma, attachment and emotional regulation. She is an accredited trainer of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensibilization and Reprocessing) therapy. She participates as an invited professor in the EMDR Psychotherapy Master’s Program of the National Distance Education University (UNED). On the level of research, she is directing several projects in the field of trauma and treatment with EMDR of several disorders. She has published many articles on dissociation, trauma and EMDR, and is the author/co-author of the books Trastornos Disociativos; EMDR y Disociacion, el abordaje progresivo; EMDR y TLP (these three books in the Publishing Company Ed. Pléyades), and Trastorno de Identidad Disociativo (Ed. Síntesis) (“Dissociative Disorders”). Her recent books: “No soy yo, entendiendo el trauma complejo, el apego y la disociación” (I am not myself: Understanding Complex Trauma, Attachment and Dissociation), "The good thing about having a bad day" (“Lo bueno de tener un mal día”) integrate these elements synthetically and are oriented towards patients as well as towards professionals.

Prof. Manuel González de Chávez, Ex- President of the International Society for the Psychological and Social Approaches to Psychosis. He is currently the President of the Foundation for research and treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses, Organizer of the yearly Courses on Schizophrenia held every year in Madrid and director of the Collection of books on dynamic and psychotherapeutic orientation of the mentioned Foundation. For about twenty years, until his retirement, he was Chief of the Psychiatry Service 1 of the Hospital General Universitario Gregorio Marañón of Madrid and Professor of Psychiatry of the Complutense University of Madrid. He was also Director of the Mental Health Services of Seville, President of the Mental Health Association of Madrid and President of the Spanish Association of Neuropsychiatry, of which he is an Honorary Member. Dedicated to the development of psychotherapeutic programs for psychotic patients and especially to group psychotherapy in schizophrenia and its importance in the treatment of these patients, he is an author and editor of several books and different publications on this subject.
