Presentation
Here we are once again, right on time for our annual gathering, which we are finalizing in preparation for this year’s event, to be held on November 27 and 28 at the Gregorio Marańón Hospital in Madrid.
As in previous editions, the main goal of the Course is to help update the knowledge of professionals involved in the care of individuals affected by psychotic disorders, in any of their manifestations, in order to improve their clinical practice and ability to assist these patients. At the same time, the Course aims to maintain its tradition as a meeting point for professionals — among ourselves and with the guest lecturers from other countries — who will bring some of the most relevant updates in this field of clinical and care practice.
This year we will keep the same format as last year, when we resumed the project led for 27 editions by Dr. Manuel González de Chávez. Thus, on the afternoon of Thursday, November 27, we will host three workshops, and on Friday, November 28, the lectures and corresponding debates will take place.
The theme that brings us together this year — "Psychotic Crises and Therapeutic Contexts in Times of Fragmentation" — clearly reflects the topics to be addressed. As usual, we have made every effort to include outstanding professionals from both the international and national scenes, including:
- Walter Gekle, who will share his extensive experience with the SOTERIA project;
- Iseult Walney, with wide clinical and teaching experience from the Open Dialogue perspective;
- Françoise Davoine, a psychoanalyst who will offer her view on psychotic crises in the context of war;
- Dainius Puras, widely recognized for defending the rights of people with disabilities (notably through UN reports) and for advocating necessary changes in mental health services. He will present his experience on adolescent psychotic crises.
Among Spanish-speaking colleagues, we are fortunate to welcome two professionals who are likely very well known and appreciated by many of you:
- Alberto Fernández Liria, who will present his proposal: "For a Trauma-Sensitive Approach. Why, Who, and How to Implement It Here?"
- Jorge Luis Tizón, who will address the question: "What Is Our Experience with Primary Care for Psychosis?"
We will also offer three workshops, which will be led by the following colleagues:
- Marisol Roncero, responsible for the workshop on Pathological Gambling and Psychosis
- Eugenia Caretti, leading Early Psychosis: What It Is and How We Accompany It
- Carmen Valiente and Belén Lozano, who will deliver a workshop on A Trauma-Focused Protocol for People with Psychosis and Post-Traumatic Symptoms in the Public Health Network
Furthermore, we aim to offer reduced fees for professionals in training and members of NGOs in the mental health field who are interested in psychosis, to facilitate access and enrich the discussion with diverse perspectives and experiences.
As in previous years, this Course aims to be a space for participation, information-sharing, learning, teaching, and reflection — a place to connect and a forum to spark motivation and interest in more holistic perspectives on these issues and more comprehensive, effective therapeutic programs.
We will soon send you a more detailed program of the Course and workshops, and we will open registration.
We look forward to warmly welcoming you to the 29th Annual Schizophrenia Course – 2025 Edition.
Warm regards,
Mariano Hernández Monsalve
