26 and 27 November, 2026 · Madrid
Following what has become a long-standing tradition in the training activities of psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals with a focus and interest in psychosis, we are pleased to present the programme for the 30th edition of the Annual Course on Schizophrenia and Other Psychoses, under the overarching title: “New Perspectives in Psychosis: Deprescribing, Diversity, Subjectivity.”
As we recently announced, this 30th edition will take place in Madrid on November 26–27, 2026.
An important practical update is that we are once again changing the venue of the Course. As a result, the activities will be held across two different locations:
- The three workshops scheduled for the afternoon of Thursday, November 26, will take place in classrooms at Hospital Universitario La Princesa, located at C/ Diego de León 62.
- The Course presentations and lectures will be held in the auditorium of UGT on Friday, November 27, both in the morning and afternoon, at Avda de América 25.
We have also introduced some changes in the structure of the presentations, with the aim of facilitating the exchange of perspectives and encouraging debate on the selected topics.
For this edition, we have chosen three thematic axes that we consider highly relevant, both from a knowledge perspective—covering clinical practice, psychopathology, demographic and social contexts, and comprehensive care (psychotherapeutic and psychosocial)—and with particular attention to issues related to the prescription and deprescribing of psychopharmacological treatments in people with psychosis.
- PRESCRIBING – DEPRESCRIBING
Prof. Martin Zinler, Germany, and a Professor from Valencia, Spain - DIVERSITY: GENDER, ETHNIC, AND CULTURAL
Prof. Oye Gureje, Nigeria, and Prof. Iria Prieto, originally from Madrid and currently working in the United Kingdom - SUBJECTIVITY
Prof. Paul Møller, Norway, and Prof. Enric Novella, Valencia, Spain
To introduce each of these thematic areas, we will have one internationally renowned expert alongside a colleague from the Spanish context. All of them bring substantial experience and a strong reputation in their respective fields, ensuring a high standard of discussion.
Regarding the workshops, the selected topics and faculty are, in our view, of great current interest and relevance:
- Relational Approach to Psychosis: Tools from the Open Dialogue Framework for Clinical Practice
Prof. Cangas – University of Almería – FAISEM - In Psychosis: One by One
Prof. Chus Gómez – Hospital of Piñor, Ourense - Understanding Psychotic Responses through the PTMF (Power, Threat and Meaning Framework): Support from a Person-Centred Model
Prof. Mikel Valverde – Pamplona
As is tradition, participants are also invited to submit posters on topics related to psychosis. This year, we introduce the addition of awarding prizes to the top 3 posters, as determined by the Advisory Committee, based on their relevance, scientific rigor, and innovative contribution, in line with the spirit and tradition of the Course. The prize will consist of free registration for the next (31st) edition of the Course.
As in previous years, we have dedicated our experience and best efforts to deliver an Course worthy of your interest. We warmly encourage your participation—registration is now open, and we recommend securing your place as soon as possible.
